EDWARD DE BONO'S MESSAGE
27th July 1998

Simplicity Agents

Because simplicity is going to become more and more important. Because simplicity is everyone's business - I am proposing to set up a network of "Simplicity Agents".

There was a time when everyone knew the Wells Fargo coach. There was a time when 'Pinkertons' meant detectives. Maybe there will come a time when Simplicity Agents are equally well known!

In the first instance the only qualification needed is motivation. You have to be interested in simplicity and eager to do something about it.

There is no initial registration fee because registration is provisional until you show some activity. You should register by email to edwdebono@msn.com with subject: 'Simplicity'. There will be a special Conference Room for Simplicity Agents.

In order to qualify for full registration you need to send in three pieces of work. This work could consist of any selection or combination of the following:

  1. You simplify an area which badly needs simplifying. You need to explain in some detail why it is currently complicated. Do not assume that everyone will know this. There is no need to offer a simplifying solution.

  2. You offer a simplifying solution to some complex area. You need to describe both the area and you solution.

  3. You describe a very good example of simplification which may have nothing to do with you.

  4. You show evidence of some campaign you are conducting for simplification in some area.
Because "Simplicity Agent" is not specific enough and because it would would be cumbersome to refer to "de Bono Simplicity Agent" I suggest the acronym "deSA".

For some help in 'process' my book SIMPLICITY is being published by Viking (London) on 6th August. It should be available in the U.K., Canada, Australia, New Zealand etc. Publishing arangements have not yet been made for the U.S.A. It may be possible to obtain the book via www.amazon.com on the Internet.

Simplicity is one of the more valuable uses of creative thinking. It is also very satisfying when you achieve simplicity. So this becomes a challenge to creative people.
