EDWARD DE BONO'S MESSAGES - 8th November 1999
New Thinking for the New Millennium
Some of the readers of these messages may have read my latest book "New Thinking for the New Millenium". The book is obtainable through this website .
The intention behind the book was quite simple. In the last millennium our thinking has been much concerned with judgement. This means identifying standard situations and providing standard responses. Almost ninety per cent of our thinking is concerned with this and a hundred per cent of education. This is 'what is' thinking. Obviously, this thinking has its excellence. But it also has its dangers: discrimination, stereotypes, conflicts, persecutions etc. etc.
The main limitation of such thinking is that it lacks the creative, constructive and design energy that is needed to make full use of the opportunities provided by advances in technology and science.
It is quite obvious that "literary blokes" steeped in this judgement thinking have not the faintest idea as to what the book is all about. So I am asking those who have read the book and have understood what it is all about, to write in their own comments on its value to them. I shall, personally, be interested to read such comments and may publish some of them here. You may attach your name and email address to any comment if you wish this to be published along with your comments. (edwdebono@msn.com subject: New Millennium)
I do not think that society can progress very far if the gatekeepers are so inept and very much out of date. There is a need to by-pass them and going straight to users who can make up their pwn minds.
