Education Courses: important announcement. There is no territorial exclusivity for the training of the de Bono Thinking Course comprising the CoRT Thinking Programme and Six Thinking Hats for Schools. It is unsafe to claim that training certificates issued by a Master Trainer are invalid - these certificates, if current, are valid anywhere in the world. It is important that all trainers should be properly trained and correctly certified. Materials for these courses are available through this website. Further de Bono Education Ltd has the exclusive right to develop further educational courses incorporating all of Dr Edward de Bono's materials under Dr de Bono's supervision. MESSAGE FOR WEEK BEGINNING 19th May 2008 Laid to rest!
I have received a number of comments following my revelation about the claim of Michael Gleason. I do not want to dwell on this matter for much longer. Michael and I had an agreement some years ago that if he dropped his claim to have originated the Six Hats I would drop my references to the matter on this site.
It seems that I kept to the agreement and Michael did not.
I like Michael and am prepared to believe that he was mistaken or misinformed. He was not at the meeting in London when I explained the concept of the Six Hats to Eric Bienstock. Since the Edward de Bono School of thinking was teaching my work I, naturally, informed the school of this new framework. It was subsequently used in an interview.
I have designed many thinking tools ranging from the creative tools of Lateral Thinking (provocation, random entry, concept extraction etc.) to the perceptual tools of CoRT and DATT (P.M.I., C&S, A.P.C. etc). Then there are frameworks such as Six Action Shoes, Six Value Medals and a new framework.
I do not need to copy material from other people and my professional pride would never let me do this.
In addition my background in Psychology and Medicine (self-organising systems) was necessary to design the Six Hats. Michael has no such background.
I am prepared to accept that Michael was mistaken. We would agree a licence and the matter would then be closed.
